Simple Poetry

Sorry for the lack of posts (I swear I say this every other post) - there's plenty I have to write about when I can be bothered to get it done. But just to bridge the gap, here's a poem I wrote for my Creative Writing module. I can't say I like it overly much, it's a bit dull and Dr. Suess-esk.

A Brief Encounter.
I remember that woman I met on the street.
A brief brushing of lives, at best.
Every time, now I think of that girl, I smile at her piquing my interest.

There were no feelings, of lust or desire, or pangs of hatred, or woe.
Though I remember distaste; being awfully saddened
When she told me she had to go.

Our conversation clicked us, with words that would vex,
The more simple minded around.
An inside language, not complex, keeping us grounded and sound.

I saw, in this girl, a like-minded friend – someone with similar intrigues.
And then when she left, she parted with steps;
Each felt like a million leagues.

Fate played a hand, extravagant and grand, nobody know what's next.
The question 'what if?', in a situation like this,
Would leave even the wisest perplexed.

I was never to meet this lady again, I admit it was a real shame.
But I know she exists, and I'm happy at the thought;
I can't say her absence brings pain.

Thanks.
